The 10 Best Beaches in Curaçao, Ranked by Locals

curacaobeachestravelguide

Curaçao packs more than 35 beaches into 444 square kilometres, and locals will tell you the famous ones aren't always the best ones. This is our honest ranking — the coves we return to on a free Sunday.

1. Cas Abao

The classic. Powder-soft sand, a turquoise shelf that drops gently into deeper water, and a reef wall a short swim from shore. There's a small entrance fee that keeps it tidy and uncrowded. Arrive before 10am for the calmest water.

2. Playa Lagun

A narrow, cliff-framed inlet on the west coast. Snorkelers come for the resident sea turtles that graze the seagrass most mornings. It's tiny, so go early or late.

3. Playa Kenepa Grandi (Grote Knip)

Wide, dramatic, and free. The cliff jump on the eastern side is an island rite of passage — but check the water depth first and never jump alone.

4. Playa Porto Mari

Famous for its double reef: snorkel out over the first coral band, cross a sandy channel, and reach a second wall teeming with fish. The on-site dive shop rents gear.

Plan around the wind

Curaçao's trade winds shape every beach day. The leeward west and southwest coasts stay calm; the wild north coast is for hikers and photographers, not swimmers. When in doubt, head southwest.

Bring cash for the small entrance fees, pack reef-safe sunscreen, and respect the turtles — admire, don't touch.
